Bagshot 1st XI vs Wooburn Narkovians 1st XI
By Matt Pettet
Bagshot 214-5 beat Wooburn Narkovians 211-6 by 5 wickets
We welcomed Wooburn Narkovians to sunny Bagshot Park on Saturday, Adam winning first toss of the season, we were bowing.
I opened up with new partner Figjam, the visitors got off to a steady start, we broke through with a wicket in the 9th over. Figs bowled very well without success, and Brad and Jonny then replaced us after 6 overs each. Brad got two wickets in two balls soon after, and on a hattrick bowled a wide!! Jonny had limited success for once, it may have been different had debutant Calvin held on to a chance at backward point, George then replaced Jonny. In partnership with the skipper they steadied the rate as the oppo were building a head of steam, George clean bowling two of the middle order. Brad and Figjam then came back for second spells, Figs finally getting reward for two good spells with a wicket, another clean bowled. 211-6 off 45 overs was probably 30 runs more than we would have hoped at drinks.
Jack and Stu opened up, Jack punishing poor bowling in the the first over for 16 carrying on last weeks form.
Stu and Johnsy fell cheaply, before Brad joined JG in a 79 run partnership. Jack reaching his second century in successive games off 82 balls, however was out next ball for 101. 60 runs were still required, Mikey lasted only two balls before Calvin joined Brad. Needing 2 an over, we limped our way to near 200 before Brad was bowled, Figjam joined Calvin and they saw us home with 7 overs to spare.
Solid performance, Adam steadily improving as captain, not afraid to make big decisions for the cause.
MOM Jack again, another century, but special mention to George and Figs who both bowled possibly their best spells for the 1st team.
