BCC 2s v Beaconsfield 2s
A return to winning ways...
Strengthened by good availability throughough the club, BCC were asked to bowl first having lost the toss on a used pitch at Bagshot Park.
Adam Passfield started well with a tight first over, before DJ Budd made inroads with his first ball, trapping one of Beaconsfield's openers LBW with a full, swinging delivery. Number 3 followed soon after, with a very sharp catch at slip by Adam Passfield, again off the bowling of DJ Budd.
Simon Farrant chipped in with two good wickets, the opener for 29 caught behind and number 4 LBW for 18. Passfield then came to the party with three crucial wickets, breaking the partnership of Shepherd and Richardson who had got close to 50 between them, before also picking up 7 and 8 who both looked handy.
A fantastic run out from Josh Balcombe dismissed Beaconsfield's captain for 32, who was looking threatening towards the end of the innings, before Balcombe Jnr bowled out the stubborn resistance of Beaconsfield's keeper at 10. Jeremy Davis rolled back the years with another good run out to dismiss the dangerous Denzil Owen for 31, leaving Beaconsfield all out for 194 in their final over.
Adam Passfield was the pick of the bowlers (21-5-77-3), Budd and Farrant picking up two vital wickets a piece, with Josh Balcombe also bowling much better than his figures would suggest (12-0-38-1).
BCC cruised to victory despite a couple of early setbacks, losing Sutton and Derry for 3 and 1 respectively. Geoff Young set up the run chase perfectly before being stumped for 58. Balcombe Snr (66) and Jem Davis (37*) broke the back of the total with a superbly timed partnership, rebuilding and defending when necessary, and attacking when bowlers began to tire.
A very satisfying 25 points from a fantastic team performance.
