U13's vs Woking & Horsell
U13's lose out to Woking & Horsell in 1st game of the season
Sunday saw us play our first game of the season outdoors, with the game being against Woking & Horsell being played at Winston Churchill School's ground. It was even a sunny day!
We lost the toss, and were put in to bat with a pitch that had a very long outfield. This really meant the ball really struggled to go anywhere - and was really difficult to score any runs especially early on.
Chris and James persevered with a slow but steady approach, before James unfortunately had to retire hurt. The introduction of Lewis made a difference, and gaps and scoring opportunities became easier to find for everyone.
With the fall of Lewis' wicket, there was a mini-collapse before Chris and Morgan steadied the ship and set a useful target of 96. This was really good for the first game out in challenging conditions!
In reply, W&H got off to a quicker start, the introduction of Adit's bowling slowed things down, however with 2 strong batsmen alongside some wayward bowling - this keep W&H ahead of the required run rate.
W&H chased down the total in 17.2 overs, despite the best efforts for everyone.
For the first game, we were really impressed with everyones attitude & there were plenty of positives to take - especially as the team are now setting their own fields and bowling orders.
As you would expect for the first game of the season - we have also identified a couple of development areas, which we can focus on this Friday's training session:
- Batting - looking to rotate the strike to keep the scoreboard ticking
- Bowling - Bowling consistently around off stump and minimising extras
Lastly - but most importantly - many thanks to Chris for Umpiring and Gavin for Scoring - a real luxury to have both!
