Brian witnesses Baggies history
Lara inspires the Hawks
Funnell started the season as he left off. Toss lost but surprisingly our visitors asked us to make first use of the track. And Funnell and Balcombe made full use of it as they both took the attack to the bowlers and registered a century stand. Both retired, Funnell making his 50 with a 6 that prompted the great man to leave shaking his head. Ghandi and White made useful and quick contributions as the Hawks posted an intimidating 187.
The visitors were soon in their stride as the benches surronding the pitch were peppered early on from some lusty blows and after 10 overs were well in advance of the rate. However their strongest batsman soon retired and the Hawks took the opportunity to turn the screw with some excellent spin bowling from Ghandi and Button slammed the door shut with a final over costing just a single as we final defeated our friendly local rivals at this age group.
Well done to the whole squad who put in a good performance in all aspects. Special mention to Aldridge on his debut as he bowled 3 excellent overs. Well done lads.
Thanks to the 3rd best Balcombe for scoring and to all the parents who helped retrieve balls from bushes and clear up at the end. Much appreciated.
