Hook Hasbeens vs Bagshot
The Royals Run out of Steam
So off to Dummer, down dark roads and a small detour to Dummer Garden Centre and the Royals were ready to make their debut in the Dummer Friday Indoor League. All the team bar the coach were there at the time instructed, by the coach, to watch the game before and learn. Funnell, White, Floater, Alexander, Balcombe and Balcombe then took to the field to tackle last years Champs Hook Hasbeens after Funnell lost the toss.
All Sorts of strange rules meant bowl beyond a line, don’t let it hit the wall, don’t bowl down the leg side made for an interesting first 6 overs as we did precisely all of that. We were excellent in the field though, first from a superb c+b from Alexander to a one handed pick up and throw down from Floater. A nearly maiden from the 12th and final over bowled by Alexander meant the reigning champs only made 134 in their 12 overs.
So it was M+M who strode out to start the chase. Alexander missed a straight one and Funnell stood and admired one shot while White called yes and ran past him. 2 down but up with the rate. We continued to be up with the rate while Best Balcombe, Floater and then White were all run out. This left 3rd Best Balcombe as last man standing and a superb 10th over including two sixes left just 16 to win. A 4 of the first ball left just 8 to win off 11 balls. Now all us coaches talk about Game Management and 3rd Best Balcombe showed that in bucket loads as he lobbed a simple catch to mid on to hand the champs an opening day victory by 11 runs.
Ropley up next.
