Bagshot Royals vs Ropley
By James Balcombe
Last over thriller sees the royals stumble at the finish line
So we headed over to Dummer for another indoor match, as we played Ropley. And, Matt being Matt, tried to double bluff the opposing skipper which concluded in us batting, after a desire to bowl first.
After a terrific first over, Matt decided to admire himself missing the ball seeing himself stumped for 3, and soon after we saw Josh run out from a very good piece of fielding for 13. Jimbo also went very unfortunately, after being run out for 15, yet the royals batting held strong as youthful Chris and Keith consolidated the innings up to the penultimate over, where Keith was run out trying to push for a much needed run, ending on 8. With a last good over, the royals scraped 100 in their 12 overs. This was a little under par.
So a tough job for the Bagshot bowlers saw a great start. If it wasn’t for a miss run out, drop catch and everything in between from our keeper (oh yea, he’s the skipper as well) we would be cruising through to the lead, still with some great bowling from all in the team, Ropley found themselves 44 to win in the last 4 overs. If only we could have DRS, then we could’ve seen ourselves on the better side of some decisions, yet after a great bit of bowling in the last over from josh, Ropley edged to victory with only one ball remaining in the final over.
Mentions for everyone: Keith and Floats for a great stint in the middle of the innings; Josh and James W for good performances with bat and ball; James B with a reasonable bowling stint. Let's not forget our fearless captain Matt - definitely challenging to learn the obscure rules and tactics of the indoor game.
But we rejuvenate during our two week rest, and come back stronger!
