We welcomed old foes Chesham 2s to the home of cricket, the day didn't start as well as expected due to George trying to burn the clubhouse down cooking the bacon and sausage on the BBQ. Toss lost for fourth match in a row, we were put in to bat. Jack n Geordie opened up, we started steadily, JG departing for 30 odd, Chris fell cheaply again, still struggling with a knee injury, then Johnsy joined Geordie at the crease. Measured sensible batting by this pair, at drinks we were just above 100 for 2, before the pair decided to increase the pace and batted beautifully. Johnsy fell for a well made 59, before Geordie passed three figures at the end of the innings, fininshing 100 not out. First century for the Baggies, the poor lad just about made it off for tea he was so tired. Next time better to hit more boundaries rather than do so much running!! Alex Sykes made his league debut, promoted up the order hitting a six second ball before perishing on the boundary chasing quick runs. George and Brad followed cheaply before Mikey ended a few not out to see us 256-6 at the end of the 50 overs.
Tea duly taken, we set about making early inroads into the Chesham innings, George and I took a couple of early wickets before former 1st team star Clifford came to the crease at 4 to settle things down. A couple of good partnerships had the visitors amazingly in control and on course for an incredible victory, but the 10 overs of Brad Passfield settled things down, three wickets kept the visitors at bay, before the great bowling at the end of Psycho Sykes and George showed some great spirit and heart, which is very encouraging for the future. Geordie claimed two great early catches, but as a group we dropped almost ten chances which was a big reason the game was as close as it turned out, Chesham bowled out for 244 with just under two overs to go. Clifford fell for 98.
Sweet victory moves us out of the bottom two, looking better going forward with availability decent too.
Couple of mentions go to Sid and Sarah (Carer), pic above, Sid attending first match at BCC his carehome messaged us asking if we would host him for the day. Sid's daughter also came along to watch too, luckily we gave them a good performance to remember. Also to our friends from the north who gave us good support from the cricketers pub and came and joined us for a few celebratory drinks after the match.
MOM pretty easy, Geordie maiden century very memorable. Special mention to Brad whose spell came to the rescue.
