Kidmore End 1st XI vs Bagshot 1st XI 1st July 2017

Kidmore End 87-3 beat Bagshot 86 all out by 7 wickets
We travelled to good friends Kidmore End in the final round of the first half of the season, with a much changed side following holidays etc.
A return to type losing the toss, we were asked to bat.
A new look opening pair saw Dan Sutton and Stu Derry face the new ball of Frost and Sheldon, and they looked secure if not steady at the beginning. Stu was dismissed to a sharp stumping, Dan soon followed batpad and Jack, late due to work commitments and the M25 traffic didn't fare any better caught behind. The reliable Johnsy also fell cheaply as did Mikey to leave us 21-5.
16 years old debutant Harrison Button joined Brad at the crease in an effort to rebuild the innings, our two youngest players applying themselves especially against the dangerous spin of Ashby. They added 27 before Harrison was bowled around his legs to a vicious turning spinner, Adam departed soon after to a worldie from Ashby, pitching outside leg hitting top of off. Penfold joined Brad, who was going along nicely, and they added 34 before Penners was given out caught behind. Umpire thought it was off the glove but Andy clearly thought it was off the arm, and proceeded to let everyone know.
Brad perished for a well made 45, and last wicket, me, fell for 0 our paltry total of 86 nowhere near good enough.
Lovely tea taken, we decided to open with Jonny with the old ball. A fantastic first over saw him remove the opener. We decided to give off spinner Dan a go, and he also got a wicket first over to leave the hosts 8-2, and us dreaming of a miracle. The experienced Sheldon and Ashby had other ideas, Dan and Jonny toiled away for 19 overs in total with no more breakthroughs. Adam bowled one over with the old ball without success, before we took the new ball and gave young Harrison a go with the fresh cherry. Amazingly he took a wicket first over, removing Sheldon for 11 lbw, a great start to a bright future at the club. There is plenty of potential in the young all rounder, but also some improvement to be made to, we could have a very useful player on our hands. Brad and I also had a bowl but there were never enough runs on the board to mount a serious challenge.
