So the final game of the season arrives with destiny of staying in division 2a not in our hands. We welcomed familiar foes Kidmore End to the Bagga with only one change to the team, Jonsy coming in for Stu.
Toss lost, we were asked to bowl, and took two early wickets despite an onslaught from the No 2, George not himself so only bowled 2 overs. I had no more success at the other end, but was keeping it tight, Figjam came on for George and got wicket in his first over, and the visitors were toiling at 79-5. Three wickets in 9 overs for Figs. A big partnership between the keeper and the skipper frustrated us, putting on 74 before Psycho took over to bowl his best spell of the season, taking 5 wickets for 28 off 8 overs to finish the innings at 174 all out. Brad also took his 29th wicket of a fine first season of seam bowling, Jonny A wicketless but bowled an amazing spell 10 overs, 7 maidens, 13 runs conceded.
In reply we lost JG first over, Chris joining Doyle who quickly departed for 4, Psycho coming in to join Chris. The pair batted very well, Chris following last weeks match winning innings with another as they put on 119 before Psycho fell lbw for a quick fire 58. Chris was then adjudged lbw a couple of overs later with the score on 172, 69 runs taking him past JG as top run scorer for the season. Figjam came in and went first ball before fittingly the winning runs were scored by Brad who has been our all round best player this season.
We waited for other results to come in, but sadly the two results we wanted didn't happen and we find ourselves relegated to level 3 for the second time in 3 years.
Our availability mid season has in the end cost us dear, as well as three games where we hardly registered points left us two points short of safety. Three wins in a row to finish the season should stand us in good stead for the start of next season.
MOM Alex Sykes, great all round performance 5 wickets and 58 runs
