A beautiful sunny day to start the new campaign, accompanied by our new electronic scoreboard the ground was looking a pretty picture. New captain Adam along with his fines list welcomed visitors Falkland after our final day relegation back to level 3.
Standards kept the same as he duly lost the toss as we were asked to bat on a bit of a green one. JG and Geordie Doyle got us off to a good start, well Jacks new best opening partner was Extras as the visitors opening attack struggled with the new rule changes ref wides etc.
Doyle fell for 22 with the score on 73, then Jack saw Chris, Jonsy and Mikey all fall cheaply before Brad helped steady the ship in a partnership of 40 before JG holed out for a well made 67. Adam, Figjam, George and Brad soon went too, before a few lusty blows form new signing Jonny A helped us get to 185 all out. Due to the length of the outfield we felt this was more 220 so a challenging target had been set.
Wides with 36 and total extras 49 helped us along the way.
Good news for the lads that despite me stepping down as skipper, Jane was still doing the teas so half time went well as usual.
We set about defending our target with the plan of attacking so a good field set by the skip and some tidy early overs had the visitors struggling at 28-4, the skipper had the use of 6 bowlers and George was replaced by the newbie who bowled very steadily 10 overs 1 for 13 to really apply the pressure, a good debut all round. At the other i end i finished on 3-21 from nine, Figjam had an unsuccessful 1st spell before last years Player of the season Bradders got straight back into his stride with 3-39 off 9 overs, Adam took a very good run out to end a useful partnership for the eighth wicket, and Figjam took the last of the wickets bowling two balls at the stumps to finish the game in style. The visitors all out for 147. 17 wides was too many but total extras 19 was one of the main differences.
A good start to the new season and a positive start for Adam in his first game as captain, nice as a skipper to have good availability which creates good problems, something i wish i had last year!! £9 raised in fines so almost enough for a jug!!
MOM Jack for a well made 67, plus a tidy performance behind the stumps, no byes on a tricky pitch/outfield impressive.
