High Wycombe 217-9 beat Bagshot 181 - 10

On a sunny day at Bagshot Park, Adam won the toss and decided to have a bowl first.

After a couple of loose overs to start, Matt and Jack settled in well, with Jack bowling particularly well and causing the batsman some problems. Matt, after his 72 holes of golf the day before was keeping it extremely tight at his end. The break through came with Matt claiming the first wicket caught at mid off.

Jack bowled a good 8 overs but it was time for him to have a breather and was replaced by Roomey. The change worked with Roomey picking up his first wicket in his second over. At drinks the score was 65-2 off 26, with our team fielding being exceptional compared to the week before.

After drinks, Jonny came on the replace Roomey and struck in his first over, bowling the opener for 47. Roomey came back on at the other end to replace Matt after a fine spell of 16-1-35 and again the change worked as Roomey picked up his second winner. The High Wycombe number 6 came in and began to take a liking to both Jonny and Roomey which meant Jack came back for Jonny and Adam came on for Roomey. We both bowled well at the end withJack picking up a wicket in his first over back. Jack then went on to bowl the number 6 who had smashed his way to 49 before that. Adam then picked up 3 wickets as High Wycombe finished on 217-9.

After a great start, High Wycombe got away from us a little bit as a result of having wickets in hand. However, as a team we bowled and fielded much better than the previous week.

JG and Stu got our reply off to a steady start before Stu was given out caught behind despite being no where near the ball. The first of 3 absolute howlers from the High Wycombe club umpire. Chris joined JG and the pair settled well before Chris was given out LBW, another bad decision, for a well played 29.

Doyle joined JG and again the pair had a good partnership. A big surprise happened in is partnership as Doyle somehow managed to hit a 6! JG reached his 50 before unfortunately being caught on the boundary for 62. Our first legitimate wicket of the day. Doyle was then out caught and bowled in the next over for a well made 34, which meant we had to re start.

Jem and Calvin were tasked with the job before Jem had to retire injured with a bicep strain. Jack went in to join Calvin and instantly looked in the mood. Blocking the good balls and hitting the bad ones to the boundary. Jack was then given out LBW for 26 by the High Wycombe umpire, in what can only be described wrongly. His finger having been raised before the single half appeal from the bowler had even started. The wicket keeper jumping down the leg side to try take the ball in case Jack missed it.

Adam then went in and lasted 2 balls before being bowled before Calvin was also bowled in the next over. Matt was given out LBW in the third dodgy decision by the home umpires and Jonny followed in the same way a couple of balls later. Jem bravely went back out to try and block out the final few overs but unfortunately Roomey was the last man out, caught at slip.

A disappointing result in which if it wasn’t for some poor umpiring decisions we would have won. But we go again next week and welcome back a few players that were missing this week.

MOM a tough one between JG and Matt, but Matt just gets the nod due to the fact he is so stiff anyway and still managed to bowl a great 16 overs after his charity work the day before.
