A good start for the 2nd XI in Division 5B vs Falkland 3s.
Losing the toss, BCC were asked to bowl on a very hot and sunny day. With new points rules in force this year, BCC would probably have opted to bowl anyway given strength in batting and confidence at chasing Falkland's total.
Their innings got off to a steady start, although neither batsman looked particularly comfortable at any stage. A howling dropped catch behind was not punished by Falkland's young opener, who was cleaned up for 23, but not before putting on over 50 for the first wicket. Several batsman got starts, but extras top scored with 38 with some wayward bowling and dubious wicketkeeping. Falkland finished on 201-8 off their full 52, with a very good spell from Tony Roome returning 17-4-41-4.
The BCC innings was highlighted with a very impressive 75 from debutant Andrew Doyle, with good contributions from Geoff Young (37), Deano Dawson (26*) and Stu Derry (24) resulting in a perfectly timed 203-6 off 47 overs.
A great start to pick up 25 points on the first day of the season and Bagshot lead the table from the off, if only due to alphabetical order!
On to Maidenhead & Bray 2s next week.
