BCC 2s v Boyne Hill 2s

Losing the toss, BCC were asked to bat on what looked like a reasonable cricket wicket. With Sutton delayed by work and traffic in the morning, Young opened the innings with Mark Dawson and the pair proceeded to face the best combined spell of opening bowling we have faced in recent memory. The pitch was helpful without being a minefield, but good pace and accuracy from Boyne Hill's opening pair proved very difficult to score against.

Young and Dawson saw off the opening pair well but what replaced them was equally good quality and resulted in scoring rates being much slower than we are perhaps used to. That being said, the pair batted well and put on a solid 88 run partnership for the first wicket before Dawson departed for 38. Sutton at 3 put on 29 for the 2nd wicket before Young was caught for 44 trying to push the score on. Ryan Blake, fresh from his stunning innings the week before, made a swift 11 before being caught in similar circumstances to Young and Sutton soon followed for 39 having hit a number of boundaries in the final 7 overs. BCC finished on 172-6 from 52.

BCC started the second innings brightly, reducing Boyne Hill to 18-2 with a run out and a caught behind off the bowling of Matt Pettet, who was slightly injured and stepped down to assist the 2s in a week of mixed availability. 18-2 turned to 137-2 with a fine partnership between two of the better batsman we've come up against in Division 5, both easily capable of playing a much higher standard. The introduction of debutant Adam Hendries turned 137-2 to 161-6 with 4 impressive wickets in his 4.1 overs; a leg side stumping, two bowled and one LBW. Unfortunately, his heroics were not enough to prevent Boyne Hill from completing the run chase in 45.1 overs, but BCC left the field with 9 points having lost to a very good Boyne Hill side.
