Winning the toss, BCC had no hesitation to insert Aldershot on a softish green wicket, with the weather forecast showing showers throughout the day. Almost as soon as the first ball had been bowled, clouds appeared and drizzle followed, looking very ominous at several points. Surprisingly, the Aldershot captain who was umpiring at the time, continued proceedings despite the weather as we could've gone off at several points.
The Aldershot opening pair looked rather comfortable in the conditions though, albeit not scoring at a great rate. Jack Sutherland, making his first BCC appearance of the year, took the first two wickets exploiting the conditions, bringing a solid partnership between one opener and number 4. Once this partnership was broken by Josh Nakarja, trapping number 5 in front for 35, it soon became apparent that Aldershot were lacking depth and the innings fizzled out to 150ao in 43.1 overs, despite the openers knock of 47. Jack Sutherland ended up the pick of the bowlers with a return of 4-52, closely followed by Dave Skilton with 3-9 in 4.1 very solid overs.
In reply, Young and Sutton batted comfortably on a wicket that had firmed up since the earlier rain, with an opening stand of 130-odd. Sutton was the first to go for 60, shortly followed by Young for 62. Dawson and Ryan Funnell completed the job in fine form, 7* and 12* respectively, BCC 151-2 off 42 overs.
