On arriving at Bracknell at 12pm, we were met by the mother of all monsoons - 15 minutes of apocalyptic rain and hail which looked like it would prevent any form of game for a long time. The wicket was covered but standing water around the rest of the square meant that a 1pm start was impossible and we put our feet up to watch the England ODI whilst the Bracknell chaps worked hard to get the game on.
Credit where it's due - they didn't slack and worked tirelessly to remove water and prepare the ground. A slip whilst removing the covers resulted in a huge puddle seeping onto the pitch - not helpful but again dealt with well to reduce the impact.
The game was reduced to 78 overs and having won the toss, BCC elected to bowl where conditions looked very favourable following the rain and cover issue! The Bracknell innings was complete 21 overs later, 74ao with only one batsman reaching double figures (47 runs smashed by number 4). Roome 4-16, Budd 3-25, Sunderland 3-31. Interesting stuff from a 1st XI...!
With ample overs to bat in the second innings, Young and Sutton started watchfully against some must better bowling than the batting display in the first innings. Young was the first to go for 17, before Sutton fell soon after for 9, caught behind in the second over of the new ball off a very good seaming delivery (why they took the old ball I do not know!). Apart from Young, no other BCC batsman recorded double figures but the very steady stream of extras meant that the run chase was complete in 34 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. Extras top scored with 29 (14 byes, 9 wides, 4 leg byes and 2 no balls!).
