BCC won the toss on a hot and sunny day, with a pitch that looked like there were runs to be made. Young and Sutton made another good start before Sutton was adjudged LBW for 25...another tight call! With the score 80-1 off 20, Young was joined by Balcombe and the pair put on 43 before Balcombe was caught for 18. Fletcher arrived and departed in quick succession, caught for 0, bringing Jem Davis to the crease in good form.
Davis and Young batted very well and put on 127 for the fourth wicket, Davis especially destructive at times with Young batting very well throughout. The partnership was ended with Young being bowled for 95 pushing for a declaration, very selflessly. BCC declared at this point; 250-4 off 49, Davis 65 not out.
On a pitch that had worn and with a ball that was equally likely to spin, BCC decided to open the innings with spin at both ends and save the new ball. A strange opening partnership of Sutton and Davis quickly paid dividends, with Ascot's keeper being stumped for 0 in Davis' first over with a ball that spun and bounced like a proper offspin bowler!! Davis continued to rip through the Ascot top order, removing numbers 1 to 5 in varying fashion; stumped, bowled, caught top edge, caught bat pad, caught cover. If we didn't know better, Davis could've been considered a serious bowler! ;)
Despite Davis' heroics, Ascot's young Australian was becoming a bit of a thorn at the other end and batted solidly giving only one or two half chances. He was eventually dismissed for 97 when Gabs Dunnage took a great catch at midwicket off the bowling of Derek Budd, opening up both ends for the Bagshot bowlers.
Needing 4 more wickets for victory, Adam Hendries was brought into the attack with the new ball offering some assistance. The youngster, once again, bowled brilliantly and claimed 3 good wickets in his 7 over spell, clean bowling two and the third caught again by Gabs Dunnage.
Victory was confirmed when DJ Budd trapped their number 11 in front of the stumps with only 16 balls to spare. With an 18 point swing, promotion was practically assured for BCC and the race now changes focus to winning the league...
