A very tough opening day of the season for Bagshot 2s having been newly promoted to Division 4a.
Winning the toss, we elected to bowl first, hopeful of enough batting firepower to chase a score. In reality, Burnham's batting line up was strong enough to post a significant score against a BCC bowling attack lacking bite and consistency. Baig at 3 hit 57 and Yasraf Khan at 4 was unbeaten on 100* as Burnham declared on 286-8 off 50 overs.
Opening the innings against the old ball, Sutton and Rowlett found few scoring opportunities and were soon dismissed for 6 and 17 respectively. The innings never picked up pace with Balcombe Snr, Dawson and J Davis all falling cheaply. With Ryan Funnell and Harrison Button at the crease, Burnham attacked with aggressive field placings, allowing the two youngsters to play some expressive cricket which gave the innings a shade of respectability. Funnell was dismissed for a well-made 26, bringing Budd and then Hendries to the crease, both of which fell for 0 in short succession. Simon Farrant came in last man number 10 (Matt Alexander absent injured after a dropped catch split his finger open) and again played some good strokes in support of Harrison Button, who was left stranded on 37* after Farrant was dismissed for 18.
Bagshot all out for 143 in 36.2 overs, which was a disappointing response in the end. 6 points and a need for better application of talent...!
