On comfortably the hottest day of the season so far, with a used wicket it was a no brainer to win the toss and bat. Disappointingly, it was the Eversley captain who was given this choice and had no hesitation to opt for bat over ball, putting BCC into the field for what looked to be a gruelling 50-odd overs.
DJ Budd and Tony Roome opened the bowling well, having no luck whatsoever against two batsman who played very little on the floor. Roomey made the first breakthrough with a good Caught & Bowled, removing the more aggressive of the openers (24) at 29-1. DJ worked hard at the other end but it was Roome who reduced Eversley to 60-2 and then 69-3 with good, consistent bowling.
In sweltering heat, DJ and Roomey did very well to get to 8 and 13 over spells before needing a break and the introduction of Sutton replacing Roome brought immediate success, bowling Eversley's captain for 11 with the second ball of his first over. Harrison Button and then Josh Nakarja toiled at the other end, but it was the off spin of captain Sutton that ripped through the Eversley innings despite a couple of batsman being reasonably well set.
Eversley were bowled out for 231 in the 52nd over; Sutton 7-52, Roome 3-33.
Bagshot's innings started in familiar fashion, with Geoff Young smashing consecutive balls in the first over for boundaries, before being caught at gully two balls later. Derry joined Sutton and the pair put on a solid 88 before Sutton was caught at midwicket having reached his half century two runs earlier. Derry continued well with the support of Mark Dawson; Derry reaching his 50 soon after. Dawson scored quickly, resulting in the partnership reaching a superb 105 before Derry was bowled for 68, leaving Bagshot 201-3 needing a run-a-ball 31 to seal victory. Dawson was joined by Josh Brown who smoked 16* in quick succession to seal victory with Dawson 77* and two overs to spare.
A fantastically paced run chase with good contributions throughout. 25 points leaves BCC 9th but only one point behind Burnham in 8th and 9 points behind Teddington Town in 7th, who we play in two weeks.
