Kew 110 all out 31.1 overs Bagshot 113-0 20 overs

League Position: 1st. Back on top…

The convoy left sunny and peaceful Bagshot CC at 11.30 sharp to get to the ground in plenty of time…. All was well until we reached the end of the M3 going on to the A316….
Please read article link… http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3149467/Police-condemn-M3-motorists-stuck-traffic-taunted-distressed-woman-negotiators-trying-talk-bridge.html

I hasten to add I was not one of the people advocating she should jump, although I wish she had possibly considered the traffic for the Hampton Court Flower show…. Seriously, we had no idea what was going on and thought it must have been a serious accident to have closed the road. We wish her a speedy recovery. Calls made to opposition skipper and Si Farrant who was the lone figure awaiting his teammates (it was only 15 mins from home for him…). Told him he might have to play them on his own (which proved to be apt later..) JB1 had heard the worst and gone a sensible route. I managed to eventually get off the 316 and through some sat nav back roads get there one and three quarter hours later with 3 additional players. Both skippers wanted to bat first, so we agreed to start as soon as we got to 9 players as inevitably I lost the toss due to JB1’s insistence I call heads.. 1.30pm came and went…. Nige arrived around 2PM. With Barrie and Ryan turning up at 2.10 as well as Adam Hendries, we had reached our player target. The oppo skipper even allowed veteran 3’s stalwart (and now our favourite umpire) a stint as out 10th man until the arrival of Santosh and a not merry Chuckles…

So to the game…. With Chuckles getting to know Santosh a bit better somewhere still near the M3, the by now pent up Si Farrant, and senior colt Jared Palmer opened the bowling. Both bowled exceptionally well, with Si particularly ferocious with wind at his back. It was only a matter of time, and eventually the opener turned his back on a ball just short of a length and was hit shin high to one which kept low to claim the first wicket lbw. Jared meanwhile kept the other end quiet. Wickets tumbled slowly, Jared got his first wicket and finished his 6 over spell. Chuckles and Santosh finally got bored of each others banter and arrived and joined the game by this stage just the 3 hours. Chuckles took over duties from Jared and seemed to do everything right except get wickets. Every time Si looked like he was fading and waiting for the bell to ring for a justifiable rest, he got another wicket. Bowling all the way through he finished 7-44 of 16 overs. Best I have seen him bowl.

With their top scorer on strike, U15’s Adam Hendries was brought on replacing Chuckles, and showed him immediately how to finish the innings off as he clean bowled him first ball to finish with the enviable figures on 0.1-0-0-1 !

To the batting, and with Mighty White away, the skipper opened with the run machine that is JB1 and himself for a change. JB1 gave chance after chance, whereas the skipper played everything on the deck of course but thankfully they closed the game quite comfortably in the end in the 20th over. Mine a chanceless 65* with JB1 scratching around for his 30* With other results going our way, we are back on top.

Big thanks to all drivers for making it eventually to the ground. Big thanks to Barrie for fielding so brilliantly and saving a certain 4 and then umpiring the rest of the game.….. Many thanks also to some of the players who did not get much of a game mainly due to Hurricane Si Farrant blowing the opposition away with 7 knock out blows. Thanks to Mark for scoring this week.

MOM: Hurricane Si Farrant. 7-44
Memorable moments: Santosh gets back in this week for getting involved in a fielding race to the ball with a wooden legged captain in hot pursuit, winning the race (at least a 30 yards head start of course), but then forgot about the ball completely and performed Tom Daley’s Olympic bronze medal dive over the ball and beyond in a heap of dust. It’s about collecting and returning the ball Santosh!
Other memorable moments: The Kew Sri Lankan batsman trying to reverse sweep Si and getting hit full flush on the helmet… Didn’t try that again
Other Other Memorable Moments. Every inch of the M3 where it meets the A316…..

This weeks van is a….. Peugeot Boxer. Expertly driven by Si Farrant, left or right hander he knocked them all out.

Half the season gone, let’s keep this going. Availabilities on Team App please or let me know before Wednesday 6PM when selection will be made. Home game v Reading 4’s next week.
Back to my dreary old teas next week unless someone wants to supply the splendid homemade cakes on offer while I was away!
