MATCH REPORT - SAT 3RD XI VS COVE ACADAMY (1ST AUG)

Lost the toss against Cove Academy and we were put into the field on a sunny day with some very large boundaries. Although the outfield looked vast, bumpy and a bit long, the batting track was good.

We opened up with Andrew P and Adam H, an early breakthrough by Andrew kept Cove quiet early up. Chances came and went on a frequent basis must to everyones annoyance!

At drinks, they were 70-1 off 21 overs - so despite no further wickets we were optimistic of a reasonable total to chase down.

By the time we got the 2nd wicket (at 130) a strong platform had been put in place allowing their youth to come in and express themselves.

From that point Cove scored quick runs, before we slowed them down with four late wickets including 2 run outs. Good to see perservance during a long afternoon in the field.

In total Cove amassed 217 for 6 off 47 overs. Credit goes to Andrew P (18-4-59-2) , Adam H (8-1-24-0) and Ryan B (7-1-23-0) for some disciplined bowling despite not getting the rewards they deserved.

In reply, our "New Look" batting line-up didn't fair well. An early loss of Santosh M allowed Ryan B to bat with James B.

A poor shot by James B (24) exposed our batting line up to some disciplined bowling which meant we went from 59-2 to 70-5. However, sensible & impressive batting displays from Ryan B (30) and Rex H (23) allowed us to get to respectability.

Matt F (12) and Andrew P (11*) also contributed before we were bowled out for 145 off 39 overs.

The phrase "Catches win matches" comes to mind, as we dropped about 10. Something to focus on in later games!
