Newbury 2s V Bagshot 3s

So without our top run scorer and wicket taker on hols, we made the long journey to Newbury for our first 12.30 start. The old new skipper won the toss and on taking advice from his young deputy he decided to field first in overcast conditions. this will never happen again. Bat Bat Bat

The Youthful opening pairing of Alexander and Button opened up and both bowled excellently. Alexander saw both openers removed thanks to sharp chances from the SIS (Stand in Skipper) at slip. Button though saw the same man drop an easier chance and remained wicket less. Both were replaced with the wiles of Deadly and The Gun and the run rate crawled to a halt. SIS took another slip catch of the aforementioned Headly. A couple of tough chances were not taken but when The Gun bagged 2 wickets in 2 overs the home side were reduced to 138-6. As is the way in Div 8 though the home sides best batsmen, their skipper, wandered to the crease and promptly took 18 off his first 5 balls. Despite Alexander grabbing another couple of wickets Batsmen 9 also showed he should probably be at the top of the order and on 45 overs the home side declared on 214-7. A fair declaration.

Tea was had, no other comment needed and we needed a sensible replay. Funnell Jnr and Alexander did just that adding 31 in the first 7 overs. Once Funnell Jnr went though it was a procession of nonsense as batsmen came and went quicker that I could write them down in the scorebook and SIS faired no better. The Gun put bat to ball at the end to get us to the heights of 76. Enough said really.

Mom - A close one between SIS for some outrageous catching or Alexander with a 4 fer and top scoring with 22. I had better give it to young Alexander or he will tell me off.

Memorable moment - The Great Wall living up to his new nickname with a memorable innings spanning 38 minutes and 25 balls. He got 1.

Next Week - Oh look away to high flying Sonning for another 12.30 start. With Growler and Deadly cycling to and from the game for charity, we may be light on lifts.....
