Sunny Sonning Stunned

A change of skipper for Sonning turned out to be the ex 1st team skipper/Chairman who was dropping down to help get the colts into senior cricket. He had me a little worried when he said he was playing in their ones two weeks ago
Toss lost and put in.
On season debut, Ryan Funnell and the skipper opened up. 63 runs later Growler lobbed yet another catch to the grateful skipper having got only 20. Adam Carey came and went with a flourish (two boundaries) , young James White ventured out and batted very well for his 8, supporting Ryan. Mini spud James or Jersey Royal (top quality baby spud) got caught, but it won't be long before he gets a big score. Mini G, or Growlett as Barrie calls him, joined Ryan, with Ryan going on to make a fine 52 before falling lbw to the Sonning skipper.
At 94-4, this brought Nick Monty Lynch out to the middle. After a steady start, Monty and Growlett accumulated and then played some fabulous shots. Growlett made his captain very proud and he went on to make 70 and Nick a fine 36, putting on 109 and getting us towards a total the pitch deserved. Cameo's from debutante Haris Karimjee 4, a golfing lesson from The Wall Santosh (9 iron chip over extra cover, and drive for four with fade (11*... and Will Gardner 6* and we closed on 235-7 off 47 overs.
Chuckles and Growlett opened up, and it was not long before Chuckles found the outside edge, with slip sensation Growler senior falling down to his right to take the catch. Jack then had dangerman Wazir caught behind although most of us thought it was lbw, and thereafter wickets fell at the right time and for once the field placing seemed to work as they fed the fielders with catches or a bowling change resulted in a wicket being taken. Deadly Hedley got one, Will Gardner unlucky to have us drop a couple of catches off his bowling, Haris nearly got one once he had found his radar. It was young Jersey James White who got a vital breakthrough first ball lbw as the game was starting to look like they could hang on for a draw, and he got his second a couple of overs later with Growlett taking a catch over his shoulder at secondish slip... Chuckles was brought back on as the go to man to mop the tail, and he did just that taking the last two wickets with just 11 balls to spare.
Chuckles 5-38
Mini G 2 wickets
Mini Spud James 2 wickets
One for Deadly.

Well played all.
MOM. Min G this week, for an excellent 70, 2 wickets, 2 catches and making his dad proud.. Closely followed obviously by Chukles for his 5-38 and cleaning up the opposition.

Their captain texted me on Monday morning to congratulate our team, and also the way we played our cricket, how everyone got involved in the game and the spirit in which we played the game. (Nick might not agree with that totally..)
Let's go on from here to Kew on Saturday without using the M3 which is closed...... An early departure methinks.

thanks
Growler
