Ryan runs Woodley ragged

Woodley were the visitors this week on another dry and bright Sunday.
Batting first, a mixed up line up saw us four down for about eighty when Dan joined Ryan in the middle to start our recovery. Ryan who was batting at four, should have been run out without facing a ball, but their keeper somehow failed with two attempts, with Ryan starting off two-thirds down the wicket when the ball was thrown to the keeper.
A rapid century partnership followed over the next twelve overs, quick running between the wickets being a major feature. Woodley had several more run out attempts without success. They were also hindered by their opening bowler's sudden departure from the ground with what appeared to be a minor injury picked up from fielding.
We batted on in the hope that Ryan would reach his century but unfortunately he appeared oblivious to the fact that his score was being updated on the scorebox as he neared the magical figure. One attacking shot too many saw him depart for a well made 91.
We declared on a season's high score. Big thanks go to Matt for providing the teas at short notice in Jane's absence.
Gabs took the early wicket of their skipper with a bottom edge through to Ryan. He had encouraged his team to show patience in their shot selection. As expected, some showed more than others.
Justin and Ratty took smart catches as their middle order fell apart, two wickets falling in Youngy's first over.
The number 7 made a fifty with a number of big shots out of the ground as they rattled along at six an over before a combination of Jonny A (with four) and Dan (two in ten balls) saw us to a comfortable win. The last man out was their opening bowler who reappeared with two wickets left and promptly had to put his pads on. We still don't know where he was all that time.....
