The one that got away

Cuddington Casuals went away with the spoils but there were plenty of positives to take away despite the result.
Batting first, the new opening pair of Matt and Gabs put on a century partnership. Matt, having survived a very confident lbw appeal early on, (Andrew not giving it when it was missing both leg and off stumps...) went on to get 87, rekindling days gone by when he used to be a "batsman ". Useful contributions from Matthew, James, Jason and Andrew saw us post what looked a competitive score.
Gabs took wickets with her first, third (a cracking catch from Barrie at point) and fifth balls of her first over to leave them on 9-3 after 2. DJ soon took two more and we were in command, so messers Young, Harris and B Funnell were introduced to the bowling attack with varying degrees of success. Runs flowed more freely with our lack of pace attack, wickets eventually falling to yours truly and Barrie.
A win still seemed a long way off but their no7 continued to punish wayward deliveries whilst the no10 defied Jonny A.
A dropped catch from the skipper in the penultimate over proved decisive as they crept home with just a few balls to spare.
