Hartley Wintney's main ground was being used, so we travelled this week to the former police college at Bramshill.
It was agreed that we would bat first on a difficult wicket that their skipper had advised me would be lacking in bounce.
Our opening pair of Stu and a bearded guy, (who's name I've forgotten temporarily) got us off to a steady start against a varied assortment of bowling, some more accurate and slower than others.
We had nearly 100 on the board before Stu was dismissed for 40, his partner kept accumulating as we lost the young guns, Matthew, Adit and Jimmy White in the pursuit of quick runs before tea.
Oh yeah I've just remembered his name, it was Matt. Anyway he made 82 and Deano and Mikey added a few more to see us set them 180 to win on a wicket where hardly any deliveries bounced above knee height.
DJ and Jared (making his first appearance of 2017) got us off to a good start, removing three batsmen quickly. The first went through a smart catch by Adit.
"Whirlwind" White then removed their skipper to leave them in early trouble. A brief recovery followed before Jonny A was introduced.
He immediately tested their batsmen, proving too good for several including their number 3 who fell to a sharp catch behind the stumps by Matthew, just after reaching a well made 50.
A run out by the Whirlwind, (the non striking batsmen had little chance) added to their demise with Mikey picking up the final wicket.
A comfortable win for us in the end, stars with the ball were Jonny A 4, Jared 2 and 1 each for DJ, James "Jimmy the Whirlwind" White and Mikey.
