On another glorious Saturday afternoon we visited fellow table toppers Hayes, looking to carry on our promotion charge.
Welcoming back Chris n Willow, we won the toss and batted on what looked like an absolute road.
Looks were deceiving as a very two paced pitch and very long outfield made scoring runs tricky, Mikey/Chris and Willo all made starts, with a little cameo from Adam saw us limp to 149 all out off 45.1 overs.
At tea only two results looked possible, and the home win certainly favourite with 54 overs to bat, so we decided to use the old ball and give us two chances at taking wickets. Jonny A and Adam opened and Jonny took a wicket first ball, the keeper playing a shot that was up there with worst i have seen this season. At first drinks after 17 overs Hayes were 32-3, at second drinks 82-4, but the new ball bought instant success with Matt (me), getting a breakthrough and Will soon getting in his stride. After six overs the skipper came off and Jonny came back on, taking two wickets in 2 balls with Will also making a couple of breakthroughs, the home side were tottering on 105-9 with 8 overs to go. At this point the hero of Hayes bowling, Billy Moone, 6-52 off 18 and four catches, was in at 9 and decided to shut up shop. Despite fantastic bowling from Will and Jonny we couldn't make the breakthrough and had to settle for 9 points, 3 more than the hosts. Results not too bad around us, Amersham go top by a couple of points, we stay second. There is only 22 points between the top 6, our division by far the tightest.
Outstanding bowling and fielding today, Jonny bowled 23 overs 10 maidens 4-35, Adam 12 overs 2-32, and Will 13 overs, 5 maidens 2-16.
MOM a tough one, Jonny just shades it today.
The profile picture not associated with todays game, however i needed to somehow shoehorn the fact i got my first 50 for 17 years playing for the Sunday Friendly XI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
