This week we travelled down the road to take on Cove. Toss won and we were batting on a hot afternoon.
We didn’t get off to the best start as Doyle was trapped LBW for a duck. Johnsy entered in at number 3 and him and along with Stu, steadied the ship. The pair batted very well on a relatively difficult track to bat on. 35 overs later and we were 170-1 before Stu was unfortunately out for 48, 2 runs short of a well deserved maiden 1st team 50. With 10 overs to go, the lads were given permission to now push on and up the ante. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite work out as Brad, Willow, Dunnage and Mikey all fell quickly trying to score quick runs. Johnsy was finally out for a well made 81. Figjam and I saw out the last few overs and we finished on 214.
The second half started with Matt and Figjam opening the bowling. Figjam got us off to a good start by clean bowling their opener in his first over and Matt clean bowled the number 3 not long after. The other opener was playing some good shots and looking to be positive. After Matt bowled his 10 over spell through he was replaced by Brad, who could only manage 1 over before a problem with his shoulder occurred. This meant throwing the ball to Dunnage to get through a couple of overs. This worked, with Dunnage getting the other opener out caught and bowled. After a few overs from Dunnage, Jonny A replaced him to bowl out at that end and picked up 2 wickets in his first 2 overs. The Cover number 4 and number 8 then built a solid partnership that bought them back in to the game. However, when Figjam came back in to the attack and had the number 4 caught by Willow, this settled the nerves and bought the tie back in to our favour. Jonny then removed the number 8 in the next over and that was game over.
MOM - Johnsy for his well made 81. However, special mention for Mikey who kept exceptionally well considering he hasn’t done it for a while and for Stu who batted impressively.
Next week we are at home to Fleet and look to keep our winning run going.
